History of Crowne Pointe
Crown Pointe was conceived when two families shared a similar vision for the property that they had owned and valued for decades. Their vision included a carefully planned community that would blend the past and the present. It would preserve the natural beauty of the land while offering large wooded home sites and homes built of the finest quality. It would provide the amenities that all ages could appreciate and enjoy, including access to Virginia Creek for canoeing and kayaking, a clubhouse with pool, and sidewalks for strolling and biking.
Both families regarded their land as a treasure, rich with history and memories. When the two tracts of land were combined to form Crown Pointe, it was the perfect partnership. The property owned by the Caison family is home to an historic pond that holds the fountain and majestic oaks that would frame the stately entrance to the community. The Kraly property borders Virginia Creek providing breathtaking views of the Intracoastal Waterway and Topsail Island.
Allen Caison purchased the 27 acre plot of land on Sloop Point Road in 1977. His family had lived in Pender County for generations and had strong ties to the community. Blake's Chapel on Sloop Point Road was built on property that was donated by Mr. Caison's ancestors. The ball field across from the Chapel was donated to the church by Allen Caison's family after his death in March of 1989. The Caison family maintains ownership of the property that merged to form Crown Pointe.
Harry Kraly, owner of Crown Box Corp. in Wilmington, bought the adjacent 110 acres in 1963 from the estate of Dr. R.J. Andrews. Although he didn't farm the land, he had a deep attachment to it. Having lived through the depression, the land offered him a sense of security and the promise of self-sufficiency. Mr. Kraly had been involved in a number of real estate developments through the years, but Crown Pointe would be a special part of his legacy. Although it seemed unreasonable for a man in his mid-eighties to begin such a project, he could not be dissuaded.
As Mr. Kraly's health was declining, he formed Radiant Investments in order to entrust the ownership of the property to his heirs. Crown Pointe would be his final project. He died in January of 2008.
With the Caison and Kraly families combining their efforts, there was a need to assemble a team that could share not only their expertise, but also share an enthusiasm and commitment to the endeavor.
David Greer was hired to assist with the design for Crown Pointe and to guide the project through the permit process. With the initial phase platted and the permit for the day dock approved, his job was completed successfully.
Mike Caison and Mark Williamson, partners in CrossRoads Custom Homes, were the obvious choice to be the first approved builders for the development and to build the model home. Not only do they build homes of the highest quality, but as owners, they have a personal investment in the community and a deep commitment to it.
Mark and Mike proudly built the first model, The Sapphire, located at 150 Crown Pointe Drive. The house is an example of their attention to detail, their commitment to quality, and their unsurpassed workmanship. CrossRoads Custom Homes, Inc. was formed in 1996 and Mark and Mike have worked diligently to earn the respect of their clients and the building community. The quality of their work was acknowledged when The Sapphire won a GOLD AWARD at the 2009 Parade of Homes sponsored by the Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association. You are cordially invited to visit the model to make your own judgments.
Harry L. Kraly, President of Radiant Investments, has pledged his efforts to fulfill his father's vision for Crown Pointe. He brings not only his commitment, but his valuable experience in residential and commercial real estate as well as corporate management.
If you drive through the community of Crown Pointe, you will notice many well-planned elements. The wide streets with curb and gutter, the double sidewalks, underground utilities, and the large wooded home sites are all indications of the quality of the community.
When you encounter men working with equipment to clear land on the weekends, it will most likely be the owners. For them, the land is a treasure and they choose to devote their time and effort to enhance the community. They envision that Crown Pointe will be more than a "place to live," it will be a "way of life".
